About the Museum

Located just 5.5km from Aurangabad Railway Station, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum is one of the best tourist attractions in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. The museum is dedicated to the Maratha emperor Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and is established by the Municipal Corporation of Aurangabad by spending over Rs.194 lakhs. The museum consists of 6 exhibition halls and a trip to this museum gives the visitors an opportunity to rejoice in the period of the Maratha valor and their achievements.

The showcased exhibition describes the stories about the glorious rule and the empire of the brave king Chhatrapati Shivaji which are displayed in 6 galleries. The exhibit consists of war weaponry and other relics from the battlefield of some of the most famous wars fought by the Marathas. The highlights here are a 500-year-old war suit, a 400-year-old Paithani sari, and a copy of the Quran written by Aurangzeb himself.

The hall to the entrance is decorated with the wooden craft that is reminiscent of the splendid past. The second hall consists of swords and shields along with olden rifles. The next one has photographs and slides of forts like Torana, Panhalgad, Lohagad, and Sinhagad are showcased where you can see the magnificent architectural exquisiteness of the forts. The fourth gallery displays the utensils and vessels used in that era by the people living during the Shivaji rule. A separate exhibition is laid out to display the ancient rare coins used by the Satavahana Dynasty. the museum will give you an insight into the lifestyle of the people living in the era of the Shivaji Maharaj and other information related to the past.
