Agricultural Science Museum

An enlightening yet fascinating place to visit, the Agricultural Science Museum showcases the inception of agriculture from the early civilization to the present-day practices. For anyone pursuing agricultural studies, this museum is an ideal place offering insight into the world of agriculture and the current scenarios in the agricultural field.

About the Museum

Established by the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS) in 2013, the Agricultural Science Museum was founded with an aim to track the origin and the advancement of agriculture in human society to preserve the agricultural legacy of the nation. The museum also focuses on illustrating the expansion of the University, to offer insight and understanding of the phases of agricultural evolution at a national and state level, and to showcase the latest problems related to technological expansions and equipment in the area of agriculture.

The museum is divided into five segments:

• The first section in the museum showcases the history of agriculture and illustrates the origin and growth of agriculture during the era of Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, and the Indus-Valley Civilization. It also portrays the different agricultural practices of the Gupta Empire, the Mauryan Empire, the British-era, and the post-independence period to present-day practices.
• The display in the second room is all information about soil, water, and distinct crops and cropping systems. There are also miniature versions of farming tools like the plow, tree-climbing equipment, grain-harvesting tool, bio-gas plant, and much more.
• The third room is an exhibition of facts and documents pertaining to apiculture and sericulture along with an assortment of tools used in the manufacturing of honey.
• The fourth section is about philately. This features stamps related to fruits, vegetables, flowers, birds, animals, food and agricultural organizations, farmers, World Food Day, and renewable energy.
• The fifth and the last section illustrates farm mechanization, farm forestry, animal husbandry, post-harvest technology, agricultural marketing, and the impact of the change in climate on agriculture and farming.

The walls of the museum are adorned with pictures of fruits, flowers, birds, and animals with quotes from famous personalities such as Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Dr. Abdul Kalam, Dr. Rajagopalachari, etc. the courtyard of the Agricultural Science Museum is an open-air place with sculptures of grazing cows, cranes, farmers, bullock carts, tractors, etc.
