About the Museum

Considered as one of the oldest museums of the nation, the Government Museum is a magnificent treasure trove preserving archaeological items like stone carvings, pottery, artifacts, coins, and engravings. Located in Bangalore, Karnataka, the construction of the prime Government Museum was completed in 1876 and it was open to public in 1886.Constructed in a wide area comprising of 18 galleries, the museum has different varieties of archaeological items in each gallery and is a fitting place for history enthusiasts and anyone with some curious questions in mind. Various sections in the museum are geology, natural history, sculpture, art, numismatics, and many others.

The museum attracts a horde of visitors throughout the year with its rich and varied collection of artifacts. You will see ancient coins and art on display here along with the remains of Indus valley civilization, Halebid, Mohenjodaro, and Vijayanagar. Some relics here are over 5000 years old. The museum also has ancient artifacts which belonged to the Neolithic period and were unearthed from Chandravalli. Visit the museum to also get the glimpse of items such as inscriptions, paintings, coins, miniature paintings, statues, textiles, and other.
