About the Museum

Located in the beautiful state of Odisha, the Odisha Crafts Museum – Kala Bhoomi is a unique and one-of-a-kind crafts museum, dedicated to showcase all the handicrafts, handlooms, and artifacts of Odisha under one single roof. The museum opened its gate to the public on 22nd March 2018 to celebrate and promote the artistry and the impressive craftsmanship of the artisans.

The museum is divided into two blocks, the display area and the live section, where the display area is all about handicrafts and handlooms from the state, while the live section comprises of an open-air theatre as well as separate workshop zones. Spread in an area of 12.68 acres at Pokhariput, Kala Bhoomi consists of 10 galleries, 8 of which are open. The galleries display a wide variety of terracotta, traditional paintings, metal crafts, wood carvings, stone carvings, natural crafts, tribal crafts, pre-weaving techniques, and sericulture and handlooms. The highlight of the museum are its courtyards where different exhibitions are displayed such as the courtyards inside the premises dedicated to tribal living and temple architecture and the entry courtyard leading to the museum has a large container display section and a Kuldevi temple as well. Some other amenities that make this museum worth the visit is an outdoor Amphitheatre, children’s play area, a workshop area, a canteen, a café, a souvenir shop, and separate parking zone.
