Cooch Behar district is situated in West Bengal .

During the British Raj, the Cooch Behar was the seat of a princely state of Koch Bihar, ruled by the Koch dynasty.

The district bounded by the districts of Alipurduar in the north and Jalpaiguri in the north-west, state of Assam in the east and the International Border in the form of Indo-Bangladesh boundary in the south-west, south and south-east.
