About the Museum

South Asia’s first and one-of-a-kind museum, the Delhi Metro Museum is situated at Patel Chowk Metro Station and demarcates the inception of Delhi Metro right from its planning, execution, and the challenges faced along with way. It is the only museum in the world opened to the general public on a working metro station and displays a collection of 50 different panels, achievements, useful information, historic pictures, and varied exhibits at its premises.

The Delhi Metro Museum was established in 1995 but opened its gate for the general public in 2002 and since then has imparted information about the first modern transport facility of India. The museum illustrates how the Delhi metro is a product of technology from Korea, Japan, France, Germany, etc., and also showcases the management and style of work that warranted that the project was finalized before the deadline. It also has a detailed section depicting the challenges faced during the construction of the metro station along with the story behind the construction of the Chawri Bazaar Metro Station, which is deemed as the second deepest metro station on the globe.

To display the progress of Metro networks in the country, models of eight distinct metro trains, including those being currently used by the Delhi Metro, have also been displayed at the museum. Apart from the photographs and documents, several 3D models are also housed in the museum such as a model of the Tunnel Boring Machine and technological features in operation at Metro station like Automatic Train Control System, Automatic Fare Collection System, and the Over Head Equipment among others for an impressive and informative exhibit.
