Manipuri cuisine consists mostly of dishes made with rice (which is a staple across the state), fish and meat and vegetables (especially leafy green vegetables) along with spices, ginger and garlic, etc. usually cooked in mustard oil.
Some popular Manipuri dishes include:
- Eromba – a dish made with boiled vegetables and fish.
- Singju – a salad dish made with different local vegetables and fried lotus stems!
- Chak-Hao Kheer – a sweet milk and black rice pudding garnished with lots of cardamom powder.
- Aloo Kangmet – a spicy mashed boiled potatoes dish drizzled with mustard oil.
