A mangrove area in the delta developed by the concurrence of the three rivers Brahmaputra, Padma, and Meghnain the Bay of Bengal, Sunderbans is an enchanting forest. Spread across an area of 139,500 ha (539 sq mi)the Sunderbans spans from the Baleswar River in Bangladesh's division to the Hooghly River in West Bengal. It consists of bothopen and closed mangrove forests, land used for agricultural purposes, and barren land, and is traversed by multiple abounding streams and channels. Sundarbans is home to the world's largest area of mangrove forests. There are four protected areas in the Sundarbans that are registeredin the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, they are the Sundarbans West, Sundarbans South, Sundarbans East, and Sundarbans National Park.
