Float Festival, also referred to as Teppam festival, is one of the main festivals celebrated in Madurai, on the full moon night of the Tamil month, Thai. It was celebrated by King Thirumalai Nayak for the first time in the 17th century. Some rituals are performed on the waters of Mariamman Teppakulam Lake, located next to Meenakshi Amman Temple during the festival.
