The place is known for its affordable clothes (including those of some designer brands at lower rates!), fancy jewelry, accessories (like bags, belts, shoes, and so on) and also its street food stalls strewn across the market lanes, whose aromas waft through the air and add to the place’s vibe.
Fashion street is basically a cluster of over 385 street side clothing and other shops, located opposite the VSNL office building on M.G. Road in Mumbai.
The shops here have an impressive collection of readymade clothes and accessories like bags, belts, footwear and trinkets like fancy earrings, necklaces, colourful bangles and even certain gadgets and related accessories (like cheap headphones, chargers, laptop and phone covers, and so on).
In 2011, as a part of a locally organized “green drive” (by the city’s municipal corporation and the Fashion Street Shop Owners’ Association), the shops here reduced the use plastic bags, and switched to paper bags and other eco-friendly options.
*Note – Some vendors here may quote higher-prices to people who are visibly new to the place, so it is necessary to be cautious and use your intuition and bargaining capabilities at times! People who have a knowledge of bargaining (haggling) might be able to get some really good deals here, but if not cautious, may also be fooled at times.
Fashion street is open to shoppers from 10 AM to 10.30 PM on all days of the week. The marketplace is located near Azad Maidan, opposite to Bombay Gymkhana, in the southern part of Mumbai city.
The easiest way to reach Fashion Street is by taking a taxi, or local train. It is located within an easy distance of 1km from Marine Lines Railway Station on the Western Line and CST on the Harbour and Central Lines, so the local trains are considered the besat option, but visitors can alternatively take buses also. The nearest bus stop to Fashion Street is the Vasudev Balwant Phadke Chowk.
