Krishna is one of the large districts in Andhra Pradesh and has Vijayawada and Machilipatnam as two large cities.

Krishna is the birthplace of the Indian classical dance Kuchipudi which is a popular art form.

The hill range Kondapalli is located within this district. A large freshwater lake Kolleru is partially within Krishna district.

The wood known as Ponuku is found in the Kondapalli hills and used in the manufacture of the well-known Kondpalli toys.

Several forms of wildlife are found in the district including panthers, hyenas, foxes, jungle cats, bears and deer.
