About the Museum

BEST Bus Services, short for Bombay Electric Supply and Transport, in Mumbai, is the lifeline of the people of Mumbai and has transported millions of people across the city. It is the power behind the electric supply and transport system in Mumbai in which the transportation is prominent with bright red BEST buses ferrying its population to their destinations. The grandeur of the bright red-yellow buses and their history are captured perfectly in the BEST Transport Museum in Mumbai located at Anik Bus Depot which has been established in the year 1984.

The museum is not grand in structure or an imposing sight like other museums, but the knowledge and information it stores about the history and development of transportation of the island city, from trams to buses. The museum houses miniature parts of trams, old photos, tickets, and logos of buses that have transformed over the decades. The prime focus here is the miniature of the vintage Daimler double-decker bus Chassis placed right in the middle along with hand-written placards in Marathi and photographs on display adorned on the walls. Children can also enjoy the museum with the miniature models to touch and play with as well as remote-controlled buses that they can try to run. If you have a creative mind and are interested in art and craft, then a staff member can teach you how to make paper models of BEST buses and show you a separate space for painting and coloring. There are staff mannequins and city glass lamps to give visitors the whole picture of the history of the BEST transportation system and to offer a peek into the history of BEST buses along with their progression to the current times. Since the museum is not visited by a lot of visitors every day, it needs some encouragement for further development and for its maintenance.
