Narasapuram is a city in the West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. Narsapuram is often called Narsapur.Narasapuramcity is situated on the banks of the Vasista Godavari River. It is a municipality and Mandal headquarters of NarasapuramMandal in the Narasapuram revenue division.The lace industry is widespread in the city and its surroundings.Handmade crochet lace-work is a very most common form of industry in Narasapuram. Another important industry of Narasapuram is the FisheryIndustrywhichgenerateshigh amounts of revenue for the fishermen. It includesthe cultivation of a variety of estuarine fish called Pulasa.Narasapuram city is abode and neighborto many industries likethe International Lace Trade Centre,Central Industrial Security Force, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation of India, Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute,AWS (Automatic Weather Station) installed and commissioned by IMD, PanGodavari (Handicrafts), and Comprehensive Handicrafts Cluster Development Scheme.
The name Narasapuram was derived from the name of God, Lord Narasimha (the fourth avatar of Lord Vishnu). Earlier the place was called Nrusimhapuri, later it changed to Narasimhapuram, and now Narasapuram. The Narasapuram city’s existence is from 1173 AD. The Dutches people arrived at Narasapuram in1626. This place was used as a port by the Dutches.They used Narasapuram to build ships and boats. It was well-known for its ship-building activity and some Europeans also were customers of this place. In the present time also,small boats are built in Narasapuram.Portuguese established their factory during the 16th centurywhich remained as a trading center for a few years. During the 18th century, Narasapuram became a major trading port. Teak was exported to other regions from this port. Kakinada and Narsapuramports became popular for manufacturing ships. Currently, there is no port at Narasapuram.
