kanha Tiger Reserve

Kanha Tiger Reserve, also called Kanha–Kisli National Park, is one of the tiger reserves of India, located in the state of Madhya Pradesh. It was notified a tiger reserve in 1973 and encompasses an area of 940 kilometres square. It is also the first tiger reserve in India to officially introduce mammals such as Mascot and Bhoorsingh, the Barasingha. The tiger reserve supports a rich diverity of flora and fauna. The ideal time to visit the place is during the months of April to May. During this time, tigers can be eaily spotted, but the temperature reaches upto 40°c, which can feel unbearably hot.

Dominant Flora

The vegetation of the tiger reserve consists of over 1000 species of flowering plants.

Dominant Fauna

Mammals: tiger, leopard, wild dog, sloth bear, foxes and jackals, Barasingha, Gaur, Blackbuck.

Birds: black ibis, bee-eaters, cattle egret, blossom-headed parakeets, pond herons, drongos, common teal, crested serpent eagle, grey hornbill, Indian roller, lesser adjutant, little grebes, lesser whistling teal, minivets, Malabar pied hornbill, woodpecker, paradise flycatchers, mynas, Indian peafowl, red junglefowl, red-wattled lapwing, steppe eagle, Tickell's blue flycatcher, white-eyed buzzard.

Reptiles: Cobra, Common krait, Russell's viper, Saw-scaled viper, monitor lizard, Copper-headed snake.

Best time to visit

The ideal time to visit the place is during the months of April to May. During this time, tigers can be eaily spotted, but the temperature reaches upto 40°c, which can feel unbearably hot.

Nearest Airport: The nearest airport is Jabalpur Airport, located at a distance of 175 km from the tiger reserve.

Road Accessibility : The tiger reserve can be approached by Raipur-Gandai-Malanjkhand- Baihar highway route via Mukki Gate.
