Kawal Tiger Reserve is a tiger reserve, located at Jannaram mandal of Mancherial District in Telangana state. It was declared a tiger reserve in the year 2012. It is the oldest reserve in the northern Telangana region and is well known for its abundant flora and fauna. The reserve is also a catchment area for the rivers Godavari and Kadam, which flow towards the south of the reserve. It is nestled in the Sahyadri Mountain Ranges, occupying a total area of 1015.35 kilometre square. The ideal time to visit the place is during the months of November to April.
The vegetation of the tiger reserve consists of dry deciduous teak forests mixed with bamboo, terminalia, pterocarpus, anogeissus and cassias.
Mammals: tiger, leopard, gaur, cheetal, sambar, nilgai, barking deer, chowsingha, peacock and sloth bear.
Birds: Grey-headed fish eagle, Bronze-winged jacana, Alexandrine parakeet, Common teal, Woolly-necked stork, Open billed stork, Northern pintail, Pied-kingfisher, Blue-tailed bee-eater, Red coloured dove, Indian nuthatch, Waterhen, Eurasian wryneck, Common Iora.
Reptiles: Monitor Lizard, Snake, Rock Lizard, Chameleon and many more.
The ideal time to visit the place is during the months of November to April.
