Parvathipuram

Parvathipuram is a town located inthe Parvathipuram Manyam district of Andhra Pradesh. It is a municipality and the administrative headquarters of Parvathipuram Manyam district and the headquarters of Parvathipuram revenue division and Parvathipuram Mandal. The town is occupied with a total area of 11.24 km2. Parvathipuram revenue division shares a border with various districts in Odisha.According to the 2011 census, Parvathipuram had a population of 53,844. The total population consists of 27,033 females and 26,811 males a sex ratio of 1008 females per 1000 males. In the age group of 0–6 years,5,048 children are there, out of which 2,607 are boys and 2,441 are girls a ratio of 936 per 1000. The average literacy rate stands at 79.14% with 38,618 literates, considerably higher than the state average of 67.41%.Parvathipuramtown is an agriculture-based area and the maincultivated crops are paddy, cashew nuts, mangoes, mahua, and other minor crops

  • Bobbili Fort : At a distance of 27 km from Parvathipuram town, Bobbili fort is located in Bobbili Town. Bobbili Fort is also known as Bobbili Kota. Bobbili Fort or Bobbili Kotawas built during the middle of the 19th century by the successor of the Raja of Bobbili, Chinna Ranga Rao. The fort was built after the improvement in their economic conditions. The Fort has a beautiful entrance gate which is designed in the Indo-Saracenic architectural style and a tall Dome. The Bobbili Fort has Durbar Hall (Kings’ court), several mandapas or mantapas (pillared hall), four monuments, and two temples in it.
  • Thotapalli Barrage : Thotapalli Barrage is situated at a distance of 11 km from Parvathipuram. The Thotapalli Barrage is located in Garugubilli Mandal of Parvathipuram Manyam District. It was named afterSardar Gouthu Latchanna, the freedom fighter, and Political leader.In the year 1908, the old Thotapalli regulator was constructed across the Nagavali River with a 64,000 acres irrigation potential. The regulator was replaced by the current Thotapalli barrage. The Thotapalli Barrageproject construction happened between 2003 and 2015. TheThotapalli Barrage was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Shri Nara Chandra babu Naidu on 10th September 2015. TheThotapalli Barrage Project provides irrigation to 1,20,000 acres in Srikakulam and Parvathipuram Manyam districts.
