Wankaner, Gujarat

Wankaner is a city in the Morbi district of Gujarat.Wankaner, also known as Jhalawar, was a princely state ruled by the JhalaRajputs. The ruler during whose reign Wankaner actually became a more organised and developed region was Maharana His Highness Amarsinhji. Amarsinhji was an avid supporter of the arts and architecture.

  • Ranjit Vilas Palace : The Ranjit Vilas Palace at Wankaner exemplifies the Royals of Wankaner’s love of art, building, and engineering. The palace, designed by Maharaja Amarsinghji in 1907, is a combination of architectural styles that stands majestically atop a hill overlooking the picturesque village of Wankaner. It has lovely Gothic arches, a grand clock tower with a Mughal dome, Franco-Italian window panes, oriental balconies, and other features. Since the royal family lives in the palace, a portion of the structure has been converted into a museum of masterpieces, armaments, and relics that is open to the public.

  • Royal Oasis : The Royal Oasis, located on the shores of Machchu Lake, was previously the palace guest house. A magnificent pool with a twentieth-century step well is also present inside; adding to the elegance of the old-world charm the structure exudes.
