One of the most popular bird sanctuaries in India, Thattekad Bird Sanctuary is the gift of Dr. Salim Ali, an ornithologist, also known as ‘Bird Man of India’, who found this patch of lowland lush green forest on the banks of Periyar River. Stretching in only 25km, the sanctuary jungle safari, trekking trails, and jungle camps for a full-fledges and captivating experience. The jungle safari is done on boat on the Periyar River which will take you close to cormorants, kingfishers, and many other birds frolicking in and around the riverbank. If you love hiking and trekking amidst the lush extravagance, the Salim Ali Bird Trail, Black Baza Trail, and Trogon Trail are the trekking options available. The sanctuary also has night camps for our wanderers including Frogmouth Watch Tower, Hornbill View Tower, Tree Hut, and Paid Nature Camp for nature lovers.
