Janmashtami, also known as Krishna Janmashtami or Gokulashtami, is a Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu. The festival is observed by Dance-drama enactments of the life of Krishna according to the Bhagavata Purana, such as Rasa Lila, devotional singing through the midnight when Krishna was born, along with fasting. Janmashtami is celebrated mainly in Mathura and Vrindavan, along with the other states of India such as Manipur, Assam, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Andra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
