Ugadi or Yugadi, is a festival, known to be celebrated in the states of Telangana, and Karnataka. The festival is observed by drawing colourful patterns on the ground called Muggulu, mango leaf decorations on doors, buying and giving gifts like new clothes, giving charity to the poor, oil massage followed by special bath, and visiting Hindu temples. During the festival, a special dish called pachadi is prepared that contains all flavors – sweet, sour, salty, bitter, astringent and piquant. The preparations for Ugadi begin a week ahead, where houses are thoroughly cleaned, People buy new clothes and Dhoti for the festival, decorate the entrance of their houses with fresh mango leaves as Mango leaves and coconuts are considered auspicious in the Hindu tradition. Cow dung paste and water is also used to clean the front of house.
