Kurung Kumey district is situated in Arunachal Pradesh state.
The name came from Kurung and the Kumey, the two principal rivers.
The headquarter of the district is in Koloriang.
The district is surrounded by China in the north, East Kameng District in the west, Upper Subansiri District and Lower Subansiri District and in the south, Papum Pare District in the East.
