Major festivals and events celebrated in Alappuzha are:
- Onam – This is one of the most important festivals in Kerala state, and is also celebrated in Kochi majestically. Street parades happen with dancers dressed like animals, and people decorate homes and streets with flowers in the form of Rangolis (also called Pookalam).
- Chettikulangara Kumbha Bharani – This is a festival celebrated every year at the Chettikulangara Devi temple in the Alappuzha district in Kerala. It is held in the month of February or March - the exact date is determined according to Malayalam Calendar.
- Aluva Shivarathri – A festival dedicated to Lord Shiva. People usually fast during daytimes and pray to Lord Shiva during this festival. In Kerala, it is celebrated during the months of February/March.
- Champakulam Moolam Boat Race Event – Kerala is known for its snake boat (a long boat that is rowed by multiple people) races; this event is one of the oldest snake boat races in Kerala. It is held on the River Pamba each year; on the anniversary of installation of the deity of the Ambalappuzha Sree Krishna Temple.
