About the Museum

Located in Allahabad or as now known as Prayagraj, Jawahar Planetarium is one of the kid-friendly and most visited places in the city. Situated adjacent to Anand Bhavan or Swaraj Bhavan, Jawahar Planetarium was constructed in the year 1979 and is administered by Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund, Delhi. The aim of the museum is to engage kids and make them practical by creating their interest in science and offering them a communicating educational tour. The interior of the planetarium is dimply lit and the ceiling is made hemispherical to resemble the sky. One of the major highlights of the planetarium is the section where there is a modular which can tell your weight on the moon and Jupiter according to your current weight and height. Another key attraction of this planetarium is sky watching, a section where you can glimpse the star-studded night sky through an artificial setup. One of the other major not-to-miss things in the museum is the stunning show of the Mars Mission of India.

Not only kids but adults also enjoy being in the planetarium and improving their knowledge of stars, planets, satellites, galaxies, and much more. Apart from the sky watching and weight measuring setup, there are other very interesting fun activities that keep the children engaged for hours and draw their curiosity in science. The planetarium also organizes space and celestial shows where up to 80 people can be accommodated at once. The museum also hosts many workshops and lectures for children above the age of 5 and proves to be successful on the educational front too. Lectures in the sessions include topics such as astronomy and space, history, and technological development. The lectures are held every year on the birth anniversary of the first Prime Minister of India – Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on the 14th of November and the Jawahar Planetarium is certainly one of the best places in Allahabad for both kids and adults that will leave you in awe if you are out on a family trip.
