Bhilai,Chhattisgarh

Bhilai is a city in the district of the Indian state of Chhattisgarh, in eastern central India. With a population of over one million, it is Chhattisgarh's second-largest urban region after Raipur. Bhilai is a large industrial city as well as the central India's academic centre.

  • Civic Center : Civic Center is a well-known retail destination in Bhilai. Originally built in a L shape with two rows of shops and stores, this location now has a children's garden with a toy train after undergoing extensive renovations. A dome supermarket with art installations is also located in the region. An open-air theater on the Civic Center's east side serves as a platform for numerous cultural programs as well as musical nights.

  • Ganga Maiya Temple : The Ganga Maiya Temple, Bhilai in Jhalmala, has an intriguing mythology associated with it. According to legend, a local fisherman discovered the temple's idol in his net but chose to ignore it rather than retrieve it. Later, a peasant from the same hamlet had a dream in which the idol told him to rescue it from a cabin near the village. Bhikam Chanda Tiwari later erected a temple there, which today has a significant impact on the lives of the inhabitants. There are now several cultural activities as well as medical camps being held there.

  • Bambleshwari Temple : A prominent religious site that the state is known for is located on a mountaintop a bit away from Bhilai. The temple, also known as BadiBambleshwari, is located near Dongargarh and approximately half a kilometer distant from another temple known as ChottiBambleshwari. It is reported that around 2220 years ago, a local king named Raja Veersen performed countless pujas and worshiped the gods in hopes to be blessed with a child. When the queen gave birth to a son after a year, the king, believing it to be a blessing from Lord Shiva and Parvati, built the temple here.

How to Reach

  • Swami Vivekanand Airport in Raipur, about 45 minutes' drive from Bhilai, is the nearest international airport. It has direct flights to important cities such as Bangalore, Bhopal, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Chennai, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai, among others. The nearest railway station to Bhilai is Durg Railway Station, which is about a half-hour drive away. It has trains running daily to Bhopal, Bilaspur, Ahmedabad, Durg, Chapra, Howrah, Nagpur, Puri, Shalimar, and Vishakhapatnam, among other places.
