Chamoli district is situated in Uttarakhand .

The district is bounded by Tibet region , Uttarakhand districts of Pithoragarh and Bageshwar , Almora , Pauri Garhwal, Rudraprayag and Uttarkashi on the north,east, south, southwest, west and on the northwest respectively .

The headquarter of the district is Gopeshwar .

Chamoli is birthplace of “Chipko Movement” .

The word "Chamoli" came from Sanskrit Language word "Chandramoli" Which means Lord Shiva .
