Encompassed by the beautiful and wide range of meadows and spices Chilakaluripet City situated in Andhra Pradesh’s Palnadu district is another city that has many things to be explored. Spotted and regularly visited by British dealers and traders over the 18th and 19th centuries, Chilakaluripet is known for its wealthy and abounding agricultural production.

History

Chilakaluripet which is known for its agricultural products and development in arts and business was once called Chilakaluri. As the city has a vast fruit farm, parrots used to come and live on the trees. Back in the past Chilakaluripet was controlled by the Zameedars who were good to their people and prevented them from paying much taxes to the government.Chilakaluripet was constituted as a third-grade municipality in 1964, in 1980 it was upgraded to the second municipality and later in 2001 was promoted to the first municipality.

Chilakaluripet city has many spots to explore which include giving a tour of the history of the Telugu Choda dynasty, religious places, and also fun places like Sanctuary, etc.

  • Spice Park : If you are planning to visit Chilakaluripet, Spice Park is a must-visit place.
  • KathulaBavi : KathulaBavi is an ancient Shivalayam (Hindu Temple or Mandir) that has huge old sculptures. As the Temple is from old age, there is no particular affirmation about its construction, although historians have their assumption that the Temple was built in the 16th century by the King of the Vijayanagara Empire, SadasivaRayulu.

    • Ashtothara Pooja, Archana, Darshan – 3:30 PM to 7:00 PM
    • Pradoshakolarchan, Gotranamamulu, Panchaharati, Darshan – 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM
  • Sri VenuGopinatha Swamy Temple: Sri Venu Gopinath Swamy Temple, located onKotappakonda road is one of the top temples in Chilakaluripet.
  • Phirangipuram Church: Phirangipuram Church, situated in the Phirangipuram village is the second largest Church in Telugu States. The Church is indeed one of the tourist attractions places in Chilakaluripet because of its beautiful architecture. Despite the locals, people from neighboring places also visit the church, Tirupathi, Hyderabad, Vijayawada,Vizag, Karimnagar, Nellore, Warangal, Srisailam, etc.
  • Kondaveedu Fort: Constructed by ProlayaVemaReddi from Reddi Dynasty, Kondaveedu Fort is another ancient structure in Chilakaluripet. Kondaveedu Fort is an old-aged hill fortress with a massive, three-storied gate built with granite stone blocks. The Kondaveedu fort was designed with both Muslim and Hindu styles.
  • Uppalapadu Bird Sanctuary-: Uppalapadu Bird Sanctuary is located in Uppalapadu and is located at a distance of 48.8 km from Chilakaluripet City. Birds that are seen to be migrated from countries like Australia and Siberia include spot-billed pelicans, Painted storks, etc.
