Established in 1987, the Erode Government Museum appeals to a large mass of people, especially to culture buffs and history enthusiasts. Located in the city of Erode in Tamil Nadu, the museum is a treasure trove of items related to art, anthropology, archeology, and houses one of the largest collections of art and culture in Tamil Nadu. Sprawling in an area of 1200 Square feet, the art collection of the museum is quite exquisite and is considered to be of utmost value.
On visiting the museum you can explore the prominent gallery that displays regional art and traditions through an extensive range of artifacts and rare items such as inscriptions belonging to the Kongu Chola Kingdom, artifacts, handicrafts, and stones from Bargur, and separate sections exhibiting Thanjore paintings, manuscripts, and other prehistoric items. The museum displays various exhibits under nine different categories namely Arts, Archaeology, Anthropology, Philately, Numismatics, Botany, Zoology, Geology. Other attractions that the museum is known for are a comprehensive assortment of palm leaf manuscripts, coins from the ancient era, antiques and urls from Kodumanal archaeological excavations along with an exquisite collection of geological and zoological specimens.
