Lachen is a town, located at an elevation of 2,750 metres in North Sikkim district in the Indian state of Sikkim. The town is being promoted by the Sikkimese government as a tourist destination. Some of the places to visit in Lachen include Lachen monastery, the women's handicraft centre and a relatively unexplored and untouched Chopta Valley, located in north of Lachen. The valley is rich with alpine vegetation, enthralling lakes and rivers, also famous for several monuments of historical and religious importance. The region is suitable for trekking, Bird watching and, and other adventure sports. Lachen is about 129 kilometres away from the capital city of Gangtok, and can be reached by a six-hour road journey.
