Yumthang Hill Station

Yumthang is a town, situated at an elevation of 3,564 metres in the North Sikkim district of Sikkim state. It is located at a distance of 150 kilometres from the state capital Gangtok. The town is popularly known as the 'Valley of Flowers' which is home to the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary. The flower season starts from late February and ends in mid June, during the flower season, countless flowers bloom to carpet the valley in multicolored hues of rainbow. Yumthang remains closed between the months of December and March due to heavy snowfall. A direct journey to Yumthang is not feasible as roads are commonly foggy and it becomes dark very early around 5:30 pm. Tourists are generally recommended to travel from Gangtok to Lachung by booking a full vehicle or shared, stay over night and resume their journey in the morning. It takes around two hours from Lachung to reach Yumthang.
