About the Museum

Situated at the NaubatPahad in the city of Nizams Hyderabad, the Birla Science Museum and Planetarium is one of the most popular and advanced planetariums in the country. Inaugurated in 1985 by the late Shri N.T. Rama Rao, the Birla Museum is a great place of attraction not only for children but for adults as well. Constructed with advanced technology from Japan, the dome shaped structure is the bridge between science and the common people and offers the visitors the knowledge of the latest technology, inventions, and the concepts of the universe.

The Birla Planetarium in Hyderabad shows presentation of international caliber that edifies and entertains the visitors in many ways. The cosmic presentation in this section is at excellent and at parity with Japan, US, and Europe. Another highlight of the Birla Museum is the Sky show which has a unique trait with which very few people are familiar with. For the past 29 years the planetarium presents its visitors with a distinct Sky show every year that is based on different scientific approach/theory. The first ever Sky show was themed on universe and was named as ASTOUNDING UNIVERSE in 1985 which was followed by the Comet of the Century is here! In 1986. The shows are in three languages namely Hindi, English, and Telugu.

The Interactive Science Section illustrates exhibits that represents the laws of physics, perception, mechanics, optical illusions through mathematical puzzles, optics, electricity and magnetism, vibrations and sound, energy and motors, and topics like atmosphere. The Dinosaurium is another part of the museum that was added in 2000 which displays an exquisite and rare collection of fossils of the Archosaur, Kotasaurus, etc., and takes the visitors back to the Jurassic Age. The Birla Museum also houses an Archaeology and Dolls Depository, Nobel Gallery, Antarctica Panorama, Dvaraka Panorama, NRSA, and IEEE for a delightful and fascinating experience for the visitors.
