About the Museum

Situated in the Purani Haveli in Hyderabad, Telangana, the Nizam Museum is a tourist place that is worth your time. Established by the seventh and the last Nizam of Hyderabad, Asaf Jha VII, the Nizam Museum is a house full of exhibits illustrating the lifestyle of the Nizams, who ruled the city from the 19th to 20th century and have played a major part in the development of the city.

The Nizam Museum opened its gate to the general public in the year 2000 and consists of an extensive range of rare souvenirs and exquisitely composed mementos. These mementos were given to Asaf Jha VII on the completion of the 25 years of the reign of Nizam when a Silver Jubilee celebration was held in 1936. The museum comprises exhibits that are mostly the mementos that the Nizam got during this celebration. One of the major highlights of the museum is the golden wooden throne used during the Silver Jubilee festivity of the last Nizam.

Other high points in the museum consist of a diamond inlaid gold Tiffin box, paintings of Mir Osman Ali Khan, a wooden writing box covered with mother of pearl, diamond, and gold-studded daggers, caskets, a delicately designed silver perfume bottle, etc. A memoir from the Raja of Palvancha is also a commendable piece of art. Not only art and mementos, but the museum also astounds the visitors with its impressive collection of vintage cars on display such as a 1930 Rolls Royce, Packard, a Jaguar Mark V, etc. A 200-year-old announcement drum, and a manually operated lift that is more than a century old are sure to lure the visitors to the museum premises again and again.
