Kavali is a town in the Nellore District of Andhra Pradesh. One of the few cities from Andhra Pradesh that were selected for the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) Scheme, Kavali is the second biggest city in the Nellore District. It is theheadquarters of the Kavali Mandal and Kavali revenue divisions. It is. Kavali is famous for Bonda, a snack made with gram flour batter stuffed and deep-fried. People often used to have it as breakfast. Kavali town is occupied with a total area of 22.95 km2. The total population of Kavali town is 90,099 and is the 4th ranked town in Andhra Pradesh according to the population list.

History

The name Kavali was borrowed from the local language according to which Kavali means patrol. The place was named like this because, in 1515, Harihara Rayulu, the King of Uadaygiri commissioned his army to this town.

  • Kalugolamma Temple : Kalugolamma Temple is situated at a distance of 700m from Kavali town.   • Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy Kamakshi Tayee Devasthanam : Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy Kamakshi Tayee Devasthanam Temple is located on the banks of the Penna River. It was built in 1150 A.D. Near the Temple, there is a lake which is called Kasyapa Theertham, people believe that whoever takes a bath in the lake, their sins will be washed in this sacred water.
