Abohar Wildlife Sanctuary

Abohar Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Fazilka district of Punjab and is a private nature reserve. It was declared a sanctuary in 1975. The sanctuary is known for being a preservation hotspot for Black Buck, which is regarded as a sacred animal by the people of Bishnoi community who are native to the place. It occupies an area of over 18,650 hectares of land. The sanctuary is a major tourist spot and is home to many different varieties of both flora and fauna.

Dominant Flora

Albizia Lebbeck, Acacia Nilotica, Azadirachata Indica, A. tortilis, Dalbergia Sissoo, P Juliflora, Prosopis Cineraria and Melia Azedarach.

Dominant Fauna

Mammals: Wild Boar, Blue Bull, Porcupines, Hare, Jackal and Black Duck.

Birds: Several species of birds are found here.

Best Time to visit

The ideal time to explore the sanctuary is during the months of October to March. During this time, the weather remains pleasant.

How to Reach

Nearest Train Station: The nearest railway station is Abohar railway station, located on Shri ganganagar to New delhi railway track. Another closest railhead is the Bathinda railway junction, which is 75 kms away from the sanctuary.

Nearest Airport: The nearest airport is Sri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport, located in Amritsar, which is approximately 230 km away.

Road Accessibility : Bus can be taken from Abohar bus stand, which is about 15 kms away from the sanctuary.
