Dhauladhar Wildlife Sanctuary

Dhauladhar Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the most picturesque wildlife sanctuaries, located in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. It was established in 1994 and covers an area around 944 kilometres square. It has numerous eco-tourism spots in and around its area and is visited by a large number of tourists every year. The sanctuary is surrounded by snow capped mountains and is very rich in the population of flora, fauna and avian fauna. The months from April to October are considered to be the best time to visit the place. Activities like paragliding and trout fishing are also available for adventure sports lovers within the sanctuary.

Dominant Flora

The vegetation of the sanctuary includes Deodars, Spruce, Oaks, Pine and mixed Conifer forests.

Dominant Fauna

Mammals: Himalayan Tee Pie, Himalayan Ibex, Cheer, Pheasant, Civet, etc.

Birds: Himalayan Woodpecker, Gold-Billed Magpie, Himalayan Tree Creeper, Himalayan Slaty Headed Parakeet, Himalayan Tree Pie, White Cheeked Babul, etc.

Reptiles: Various reptile species are spotted here.

Best time to visit

The ideal time to explore the sanctuary is from the months of April to October.

Nearest Train Station: The nearest railhead is Jogindernagar, located about 30 Km away from the sanctuary.

Nearest Airport: The nearest airport is Kullu, located about 127Km away from the sanctuary.

Road Accessibility : A taxi or a bike can be hired from Dharamshala which is just 30 minutes away from the sanctuary.
