pranahita Wildlife Sanctuary

Pranahita wildlife sanctuary is a wildlife sanctuary located in Mancherial district of Telangana State. It was established on 13 March 1980 and occupies an area of 136.02 kilometre square. The sanctuary is famously known for Blackbuck and is home to over 20 species of reptiles, 50 species of birds and 40 species of mammals. The best time to visit the sanctuary is from the months of November to April. The sanctuary is not only breathtakingly picturesque, but also has the magnificent Chittan Palace of the former Nizam of Hyderabad and many other historic structures.

Dominant Flora

The flora of the sanctuary is rich in natural vegetation and different types of plants and trees can be found here including Dalbergia Paniculata, Pterocarpus Marsupium, Ficus Spp, Dalbergia Latifolia, Dalbergia Sissoo, etc.

Dominant Fauna

Mammals: Leopards, Rhesus, Tigers, Langurs, Hyenas, Sloth Bear, Wild Dogs, Forest Cat and many more.

Birds: Brahminy Ducks, Teals, Strokes & Herons.

Reptiles: Over 20 species of reptiles are found here.

Best Time to Visit

The ideal time to explore the sanctuary is between the months of October to March.

Nearest Train Station: The nearest railhead is Mancherial Railway station, which is about 70 Km away from the sanctuary.

Nearest Airport: The nearest airport is located in Hyderabad, located about 300 km away from the sanctuary.

Road Accessibility : The sanctuary is 35 km away from Mancherial Town and is easily accessible by road.
