Yangoupokpi-Lokchao Wildlife Sanctuary is a wildlife sanctuary, located in Chandel district of Manipur. It was established in the year 1989 and occupies an area of 184.80 kilometers square. The sanctuary has an ecosystem which is unique and vibrant, representing the Indo-Myanmar biological diversity. It lies in the Indo-Myanmar border about 110 km from Imphal city. The months of October to April are considered to be the best time to visit the sanctuary.
The flora of the sanctuary consists of Dipterocarpus Tuberculatus, Dipterocarpus Turbinatus, Tectona Grandis, Melanorrhoea Usitata, Terminalia Chebula, Emblica Officinalis, Cedrela Toona, Cedrela Serrat, Quercus Spp, Bauhinia Spp, etc.
Mammals: Hoolock gibbon, wild bear, Himalayan Black Bear, Malayan Sun Bear, Slow loris, Stump tailed macaque, Serow, Indian civet cat, Common otter, pangolin, leopard.
Birds: Indian myna, Collared myna, Jungle myna, northern hill myna, Burmese pied myna, Gray headed myna, Spotted dove, Burmese red turtle dove, Burmese ring dove, Little brown dove.
Reptiles: Around 29 species of reptiles are found here.
The ideal time to explore the sanctuary is early morning during the months of October to April.
Nearest Train Station: The nearest railhead is Jiribam, which is connected by trains from Guwahati and Silchar.
Nearest Airport: The nearest airport is in Imphal city, located about 110 km away. The airport is well connected to other cities.
Road Accessibility : Bus can be taken from Imphal city or a solo bike ride can also be done to reach the sanctuary.
