- Laxmi Vilas Palace
:
The private house of Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III was Laxmi Vilas Palace, one of India’s most spectacular monuments. This majestic palace, which is four times the size of Buckingham Palace, is a must-see when in Vadodara. The stunning Laxmi Vilas Palace was built in 1890 and took nearly a decade to finish. It is still home to the Vadodara royal family, the Gaekwads, and sprawls across an area of around 700 acres. It is constructed in the Indo-Saracenic style, which is a fusion of Hindu, Gothic, and Mughal architectural forms with domes, minarets, and arches. The Laxmi Vilas Palace complex includes numerous other buildings, including the LVP Banquets and Conventions building, the Moti Baug Palace, and the Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum. The museum was built primarily as a school for the Maharaja’s children.
