Pedana

Pedana is a small town located in the Krishna district. Pedana is a municipality and the headquarters of Pedana Mandal under the Machilipatnam revenue division. It is situated at a distance of 8 km from its district headquarters, Machilipatnam. Pedana is famous for handloom weaving and the main technique used in this process is calledthe Kalamkari technique. Kalamkari is a type of block printing done by using natural dyes on cotton and Silk Fabric or Saree. Kalamkari is also one of the major professions of Pedana town.

Places to visit

  • Manginapudi Beach : Situated at a distance of 15 km from Pedana, Manginapundi Beach is a captivating and enticing beach.On the day of Magha Poornima, thousands of pilgrims gather here to take a holy bath in the sea. Beaches are usuallysuffused with sand, but unlike the other beaches, Manginapundi Beach has black soil which differentiatesitfrom other beaches. Manginapudi beach is often known as Machilipatnam beach. People often used this place for photography.
  • Panduranga Swamy Temple : Panduranga Swamy Templeis situated at a distance of 8 km from Pedana town.Panduranga Swamy Temple located in the Krishna District is the second most famous temple among the Panduranga temples in India.The temple was constructed by Sri Bhakta Narasimham in 1929. Panduranga SwamyTemple is devoted to Lord Panduranga Vithal. The idol of Lord Panduranga Vithal is 3 feet height and is decorated with Vasteras and ornaments and is adorned with a precious diamond crown. Near the temple, there is a banyan tree which is believed to be a place where the saints used toperform penance for around 350 years. The visiting hours for this Temple are 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.Devotees offer the Patika Bellam in the temple which the priest puts in the mouth of the Lord Panduranga Vithaland laterserves back to the devotees as the prasad.
  • Bandar fort : Bandar fort is situated at a distance of 14 km from Pedana Town. Although this place is now a neglected and deserted monument,once the Bandar Fort was considered the east coastal gateway of trade for the Dutch, British, French, and Nizam rulers. The Bandar Fort has a great entrance, some storehouses, an armory, and a jail, and the historical memorial built in memory of 30,000 people who lost their lives during the 1864 cyclone. These memories from the past have also been ruined and damaged. However, people don’t visit this place, it is indeed a place to stop.
  • Machilipatnam Lighthouse : Situated at a distance of 15 km from Pedana, and located near Machilipatnam Beach, Machilipatnam Lighthouse is a 50 m high lighthouse. It is a sight of pure charm and attraction. The lighthouse is colored in stripes of black and white, this was renovated to its present form in 1982 and the renovation was completed in the year 1984.
