Porbandar, Gujarat

Porbandar is a city in the Indian state of Gujarat , well known for being the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi and Sudama.

  • Barda Hills Wildlife Sanctuary : The Sanctuary is divided between two districts: Porbandar and Jamnagar. The Sanctuary region is surrounded by agriculture fields, wastelands, and forests, and the terrain in Barda is almost steep.The Sanctuary is home to a wide range of animals, including a lion, a chinkara, a sambar, a crocodile, a chameleon, a ratel, a leopard, a wolf, a spotted eagle, and a crested eagle. Three of the four common venomous snakes are found here. Locals still refer to it as Rana Barda and Jam Barda because the sanctuary was once owned by the princely realms of Ranavav (Porbandar) and Jamnagar. You may also go trekking in the Barda hills. The sanctuary is best visited from November to March.

  • Kirti Mandir : Kirti Temple, a lovely and colourful site of reverence, was established in Porbandar, Gujarat , in honor of Mahatma Gandhi and his wife Kasturba Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi’s ancestral home is immediately next to the temple. From the temple, visitors can enter the ancestral house. Many history buffs from around the world have been lured and pulled by the age-old oil paintings of both Mahatma and Kasturba Gandhi, as well as black-and-white images depicting them engaged in activities, talks, and even sharing a light moment.

  • Porbandar Bird Sanctuary : Migratory birds visit this 1-kilometer-square region on an annual basis. Flamingos, Grebes, Pelicans, Ducks and Geese, Avocets, Coots, Cormorants, Herons, Egrets, Bitterns, Storks, Ibis, Spoonbills, Cranes, Whistling Teal, Gulls, Terns, Jacanas, Ruff, Red Shanks, Indian Roller, and many other winged, fluffy species arrive during the winter.
