chadwick falls

Chadwick Falls is a waterfall located at a distance of about 7 km from Shimla and about 4 km from Summer Hill, Himachal Pradesh. It cascades deep down at a height of approximately 86 metres. The waterfall is situated within the Glen Forest and is surrounded by the thick green trees of Pine and Deodar. The name of the falls is originally famous as the ‘Chidku Jhaar’ where Jhaar stands for waterfall and ‘Chidku’ means the bird in the local dialect. The local people named it so as they thought that only sparrows can touch the top of the waterfall and not human beings. Later, it was named Chadwick Falls by the Britishers as they found it difficult to pronounce Chidku Jhaar. It is also said that a renowned scientist named Chadwick committed suicide from this location and that’s the major reason why it is called Chadwick. The best time to visit Chadwick Falls is from the month of June to September.
