Gandhi Bhavan

A memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, Gandhi Bhavan is a peaceful place situated in Bangalore exhibiting a rich collection of photographs, letters, and other belonging of Mahatma Gandhi which encapsulates the entire life of Gandhi ji. The bhavan is also used as a meeting and seminar venue to promote the Gandhian values and philosophies to the youth.

About the Museum

Situated in Kumara Krupa Road in Bangalore, Karnataka, Gandhi Bhavan is dedicated to the life of Mahatma Gandhi and is also a venue for many public seminars on Gandhian philosophies and values. Gandhi Bhavan was started by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India, and has a tranquil ambiance for anyone to visit. An exclusive gallery is housed in the premises of Gandhi Bhavan known as Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, which exhibits the complete life of Mahatma Gandhi. The gallery has a wide-ranging picture display of Gandhiji’s life from his youth to his last days. It also displays a collection of letters written by him to several personalities, his belongings such as wooden sandals, clay drinking bowls, etc.

The Gandhi Bhavan in Bangalore was established with an aim to promote Gandhian philosophies and ideals among people and particularly among the youth. The building displays a rare collection of photograph and letters and other paraphernalia from his young-adult days and all the major events leading to Indian independence movement. The building is used for conducting many seminars and meetings and on every 2nd October special programs are held to honor to the great Indian independence activist, Mahatma Gandhi. The Bhavan also houses a huge Gandhi Memorial Library consisting of over 10,000 books about Gandhi ji and his philosophies and Sarvodaya Literature in Kannada, English, and Hindi. People who follow Mahatma Gandhi and his philosophies, often visit the Bhavan to take part in meetings and seminars.
