About the Museum

In the vicinity of Chandigarh Bus Station, the International Dolls Museum is situated at Bal Bhavan in Sector 23 and is one of the best dolls museums in India along with a major tourist sight in Chandigarh. The Chandigarh administration collaborated with the Rotary Club of Chandigarh to establish the museum in 1985, it now functions under the supervision of the Indian Council of Child Welfare, Chandigarh. Established with an aim to entertain the children, the museum comprises 250 distinct varieties of dolls and puppets collected from different countries such as Denmark, Netherlands, Germany, Russia, Spain, Korea, etc.

The museum has a total of four segments – International Dolls, Indian Dolls, Activity Corner, and History of Dolls. All the dolls in the Indian Dolls section have been gathered from different Indian states and are dressed up in their state-specific attires that promote the culture and ethnicity of that region. Furthermore, a fascinating section here is the fairytale section where the dolls are dressed as popular Disney characters such as Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Aladdin, Ali Baba, Jasmine, etc., that are created by local artists for the entertainment of the children. The artistic design of the museum and the beautiful and colorful dolls displayed in the showcases captivate visitors of all age groups.

The museum premise also has an exhibition hall which is adorned with a huge model of the German railway station that too is a visual delight. The dolls exhibition is enhanced by ten murals of significant landmarks of distinct countries with colored blowups that form a beautiful backdrop. One of the major tourist attractions of Chandigarh, the International Dolls Museum charms its way into both children and adults with a rich and enthralling collection of dolls along with an amusement park comprising toy trains and fun rides.
