Khan Market is a popularshopping place and retail market in the capital city of Delhi in India. It is known for having outlets of varioushigh-end brands of different products such as clothing, footwear, jewellery, décor and handicrafts, stationery, and even grocery and local food items.

It is known to be a favourite hub of the expat and the diplomat community in Delhi. In fact, the market was rated as the “world's 20th most expensive commercial street” in 2019.

Layout

Khan Market markets are laid out in the form of a U-shaped shopping street, in a vibrant part of Delhi city. It consists of some of the city’s most prestigious cloth shops, book shops, opticians, grocers, tailors, home décor outlets, and eateries such as cafes, restaurants, bakeries and street- food stalls, where shoppers can get refreshments, and a great taste of Delhi’s food scene as well as its culture.

Khan Marketis located in the heart of Delhi city, and is close to other attractions in Delhi like the India gate.

The market is open to shoppers from 10 AM to 11 PM on all days of the week. There is no entry fee to the place.

Visitors can reach the place by road (through private vehicle or public modes of transport in the city like bus, or cab or auto-rickshaw). Another option is to take the violet line on the Delhi Metro, on which the nearest metro station lies (i.e., Khan Market Metro Station).

History

Khan Market was originally established in the year 1951. The place got its name after an Indian freedom fighter Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan (who was also known as Frontier Gandhi or Badshah Khan).
