Located in the city of Guwahati, Assam, the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra (SSK) is a non-profit organization established to promote the culture and tradition of Assam, it's myriad of ethnic groups and sub-groups, its people who are the spirit of the state concerning all its beauty and resplendence. Named after the poet and the great unifier of Assam, Srimanta Sankaradeva, the Kalakshetra Society is a complex housing a diverse range of exhibitions that attempts to communicate the message of this great spirit who preached unity in diversity and the universal brotherhood of man.
Administered by a registered society known as the Kalakshetra Society, the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra aims at conserving, restoring, exploring, promoting, and developing the vibrant culture of the assorted ethnic communities of the state of Assam. Spread in an area of whopping 17.5 hectares of land, the organization was constructed in two phases where the complex was built in phase-1 that was funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, India, and an International Convention Centre was constructed in the second phase that houses three auditoriums. One of the must-visit places in the beautiful city of Guwahati, following are galleries and exhibitions the Kalakshetra has in its premises.
The complex also organizes light and sound shows every evening which compels the visitors to stay prolong their visit till the evening. All these factors combined make the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra a living backbone of the cultural distinction of Assam and the region.
