- Modhera Temple
: The Sun Temple at Modhera, dedicated to the Sun God, was established in 1026 AD by King Bhimdev I of the Solanki dynasty and is one of the famous heritage sites near Ahmedabad. This temple not only exhibits the Solanki monarchs' construction ability, but it also speaks favorably of the governing dynasty's devout enthusiasm at the time. This temple, like the Sun Temple in Konark, was erected so that the first rays of the sun fell on the image of Lord Surya at the equinoxes. The temple was ravaged by Mahmud Ghazni, yet its architectural splendor remains. The temple is currently closed for worship, and it is a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India. The temple complex is divided into three sections: the main temple with a GarbhaGriha and GudaMandap, a detached Sabha Mandap, and Surya Kunda. Surya Kund, also known as Rama Kund, is a rectangular, stepped tank used to hold water and execute Sun God worship ceremonies. The kund is distinguished by 108 small shrines at various levels, which can be reached through staircases located throughout the tank. Aside from these, there are four major shrines around the tank dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Lord Ganesh, Natraja, and Sitala Mata. The temple is regarded as one of the most important Harijtourist attractions.
