pakke Tiger Reserve

Pakke Tiger Reserve, also called Pakhui Tiger Reserve is a tiger reserve, located in the Pakke Kessang district of Arunachal Pradesh. It occupies an area of 862 kilometre square. The reserve won the India Biodiversity Award 2016 in the category of 'Conservation of threatened species' for its Hornbill Nest Adoption Programme. It lies at an altitude ranging from 330 to 6560 feet and was notified a tiger reserve in the year 2002. The ideal time to visit the place is during winter season, between the months of November to March.

Dominant Flora

The vegetation of the tiger reserve is dense, with a high diversity and density of woody lianas and climbers. The forest types include tropical semi-evergreen forests along the lower plains and foothills dominated by Hatipehala Pterospermum Acerifolium, Kari Polyalthia Simiarum, Paroli Stereospermum Chelonioides, Karibadam Sterculia Alata and many more.

Dominant Fauna

Mammals: tiger, leopard, clouded leopard, jungle cat, wild dog, jackal, Himalayan black bear, binturong, elephant, gaur, sambar, hog deer, barking deer, wild boar, yellow-throated marten, Malayan giant squirrel, flying squirrel, squirrel, capped langur, rhesus macaque, Assamese macaque, gaur, stamp tailed macaques.

Birds: Jerdon's baza, pied falconet, white-cheeked hill-partridge, grey peacock-pheasant, elwe's crake, ibisbill, Asian emerald cuckoo, red-headed trogon, green pigeon spp., forest eagle owl, wreathed hornbill, great hornbill, collared broadbill, long-tailed broadbill, blue-naped pitta, lesser shortwing, Himalayan shortwing, Daurian redstart, Leschenault's forktail, lesser necklaced laughing-thrush, silver-eared leiothrix, white-bellied yuhina, yellow-bellied flycatcher warbler.

Reptiles: A total of 36 reptile species are found here.

The ideal time to visit the place is during winter season, between the months of November to March.

Nearest Airport: The nearest airports are Tezpur (50 km) and Guwahati (280 km).

Road Accessibility : Kaziranga-Nameri-Eaglenest-Tawang route can be taken to reach the reserve.
