Satkosia Wildlife Sanctuary

Satkosia Wildlife Sanctuary is a wildlife sanctuary, located in the Angul district of Odisha. The wildlife sanctuary is covered with dense forest and occupies an area of more than 796 kilometre square. The sanctuary was created in 1976 and later designated Satkosia Tiger Reserve in 2007. It is best known for its deciduous forest and is home to a rich diversity of flora and fauna.

Dominant Flora

The vegetation of the sanctuary is mixed deciduous forests including Sal (Shorea robusta), and riverine forest.

Dominant Fauna

Mammals: Leopard, Indian Wild Dog, Wild Boars, Striped Hyena, Sloth Bear, Leopard Cat and the Jungle Cat.

Birds: Various types of birds are found here.

Reptiles: Mugger Crocodile, Gharials and Indian Python.

Best Time to visit

The ideal time to explore the sanctuary is during the months of October to March. During this time, the weather remains pleasant.

How to Reach

Nearest Train Station: The nearest railhead is Khurda Junction. Satkosia is a two-hour ride from here.

Nearest Airport: The nearest airport is located at Bhubaneswar. Satkosia is a three-hour drive from the airport.

Road Accessibility : A 10-hour road trip from Kolkata can be done to reach the sanctuary.
