Kuppam

Kuppam is a citylocated in the Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh. Kuppam is a Municipality situated at a distance of 115.8 kilometers South-East of the Capital City of Karnataka, Bangalore, and 243 kilometers West of the Capital City of Tamil Nadu, Chennai. The name 'Kuppam' Means aconfluence or meeting place.Kuppam city is the Mandal Headquarters of Kuppam Mandal in the Kuppam Revenue Division. Kuppam is known for its granite quarries and factories and is also called the Granite City of Andhra Pradesh. A type of granite ‘KuppamGreen’is named after Kuppam City, as this variety is plentifully found in this area. The granite of Kuppam is very famous and highly in demand and is often exported to foreign countries.The official and most widely spoken language of this Kuppam is Telugu. However, many natives in this area also speak Tamil. Being the neighboring state of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, locals of Kuppam citycan understand and speak Tamil as well as Kannada also.

Places to visit

  • Kangundi Fort : Situated at a distance of 12 km from Kuppam, Kangundi Fort isa scenic and attractive sight to visit. Kangundi Fort is a deserted and impressive fort that was built in the 19th Century by the Kangundi Zamindars. There are a few other places also near the fort to visit like there is Temple on the top of the Kangundi Fort, where the locals perform a special puja on the occasion of Shivratri. There is also a check dam built crosswise to the Palar River which flows through this Kangundi Fort on its way to the Bay of Bengal.
  • Kaigal Falls : Situated at a distance of 49 km from Kuppam, the Kaigal fall is nature’s beautiful place to visit. The Kaigal fall is located in the middle of the Koundinya Wildlife sanctuary. The Kaigal waterfall borrowed its name from the village Kaigal. Localsoften call itDumukurallu waterfalls (a Telugu word used for a sound that resembles the sound of falling stones from above). People who used to visit here bring their own food (as there is no shop nearby) and enjoy the beauty of nature with their friends and family.
  • Venugoplaswami Temple: Venugoplaswami Temple is Hindu Temple devoted to Lord. It is situated at a distance of 4 km from Kuppam. The temple reflects a beautiful view as it is situated near Temple Tank. The chief figure is called Venugoplabrightens his devotees accompanied by Satyabhama and Rukmini facing the east. There is also a separate shine in the temple of Kubera. It is a perfect place to visit where you can perform prayers and also enjoy the beauty of nature.
